The Donkey signifies patience, courage, meekness and gentleness. According to Christian legends, donkeys originally had unmarked hides, but after Palm Sunday, when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the back of a kind donkey, they all received the mark of the cross on their back as a reminder of their service.
